Neill & Brown was established in Hull in 1917. The story goes that an Englishman and an Irishman walked into a public house that year and left having set up the business.
Our company’s geographical base on the Humber estuary – an important location given its links to mainland Europe – saw us involved in the handling of timber that was imported from Scandinavian countries.
From 1939-45 we played our part in the war effort and are proud of the role we played in supplying provisions for the army. We like to say to our customers that if we can look after the military we are more than capable of handling their logistics!
We subsequently evolved into playing a logistics role in the region’s highly successful caravan industry, which has led to our specialism in the movement of abnormal loads by road throughout the UK and Europe.
We have enjoyed a period of exponential expansion and have made continuous investment in powerful, world class systems. We relocated to our headquarters at Livingstone Road, Hessle, East Yorkshire, adjacent to the Humber Estuary, the E20 corridor and the city’s rail and road networks, in 1990.
In 2011, we joined forces with Nippon Gohsei in a major development of new laboratory, manufacturing, storage and distribution facilities at Marfleet Environmental Industries Park in East Hull – a site that is ideal due to its proximity to the Port of Hull. In 2014 we opened a second warehouse at the park to serve a wide range of customers.
Today we are a company with a £multimillion turnover and our operations stretch around the world with a strong presence in both developed and emerging markets.
Our main market is the UK and Europe, and our fleet of vehicles moves through countries including Italy, Belgium, Germany, Holland, France, Denmark, Spain and Switzerland on a daily basis.
We also have growing worldwide business in the US, India, and the Far East through our Hong Kong office and Far East agents, and continue to look at new emerging markets.
