Tell us a little bit about you…
I am proud to have been born and bred on Hessle Road as one of 7 children. My father was a Trawler Skipper and my mother was a saint! I have one son whom I am very proud of, he graduated from Leeds University in 2010.
Star likes
Hull: I love that we are now the UK City of Culture 2017. The fireworks that kicked off the new year was amazing and the ‘Made in Hull’ light show featured all that’s great about the city and how the people make it what it is!! The show was very poignant to me with it featuring references to the trawler industry.
Music: I love music of all genres and couldn’t live without it. In fact, I prefer to listen to music rather than watching TV. I particularly like Motown and Northern Soul music. I often attend venues that are hosting Northern soul weekends in Hull, but I also like to travel to other towns and cities for these events.
Shows/gigs: Enjoy attending live gigs, comedy and music the most recent comedian Russel Kane at Hull Truck and musician Sir Rod Stewart at the KC Stadium which was fabulous. Hoping Hull will be hosting more of the same.
Joan tells us about her personal star at Neill & Brown!
Most of my working life has been spent in the shipping or haulage sector.
Working for Neill & Brown I soon found out that the company can solve most problems; an interesting example was in the time I was sent on a training course in Belgium. We were travelling on North Sea Ferries, and as we were due to be returning on the same vessel that we travelled out on we were informed that we would be able to leave our luggage on board. On our homeward journey back to the ferry terminal, an accident on the motorway delayed us for 8 hours. It was a very hot day and we had no access to any facilities and to make matters worse it was obvious that we were going to miss the ferry, which had our all of our belongings on board!
Disaster was averted when N&B’s very own Colin Moody stepped in to save the day and showed that no problem is too great for Neill & Brown. He worked tirelessly to help us get home and succeeded in getting us aboard a Russian freighter! Therein lays another story!
